Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate is an upcoming historical, action-adventure, stealth video game developed by Ubisoft Quebec. This exciting new game sees twins Jacob and Evie leave the safety of their homes for London, only to discover that London is now controlled by the Templars. The twins, conveniently raised as assassins, set off to unite the criminals of London to take back control from the Templars.
We’re heading into the true heart of the industrial revolution, Britain – by this point had amassed an empire so large it was unlike anything the world had ever seen before. But with great power unfortunately came great greed. Charles Dickens wrote: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” Players will come to know what this truly means in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
As you would expect, big hats, fast blades and greedy Templars are all an integral part to the Assassin’s Creed Syndicate story but let me break down the 5 core elements that guarantee the longevity of the Syndicate title.
For the first time ever in the franchise we have a female leading character! In the open world of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Evie, alongside Jacob is leader of the Rooks, a criminal syndicate opposing the Templars.
The premise is simple, Jacob and Evie play the role of the games’ protagonists. Each sibling will have his or her own skill tree to develop. So, you can only play as Evie in a small number of story missions in the actual game but in the free roam portions you can switch between her and Jacob at any time.
This awesome new feature certainly adds a new feel to the game, the two newly introduced twins will complement each other perfectly. It also allows the player to choose whichever character best suits their play style or particular situation.
Players will have to evaluate the mission objective and decide whether they choose to use Evie for her stealth and cunning or Jacob for his shoot now – ask questions later approach.
Evie is your key to subtlety, if the situation calls for the quiet approach then Evie is the way to go. Evie is famed for her ability to read a situation before engaging. Because of this, when playing as Evie more options will be open to you in regard to the manner in which you can complete your mission.
Although known for her stealth, Evie is no fool when it comes to mastering a blade. Oh and she can even turn invisible… well almost… check it out!
2. More enemies at once
Syndicate has introduced a brand new fighting mechanics which has certainly thrown the cat amongst the pigeons in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. This brilliant new system now allows for multiple enemies to attack you at once.
Gone are the days that a fight scene would play out like that of an old Bond movie, where only one bad guy would engage you at a time while the others hang around looking busy waiting for their cue to jump in and throw a punch. Now, assassins will have to contend with multiple enemies piling in all at once.
Combat will now be a whole lot harder, enhancing the need for real assassin style strategies and tactics.
This conveniently leads on to my next point…
3. Rope Launcher
Hold on to your hats, there is now an even more stealthy way to zip around London. The assassin’s traditional assassin’s gauntlet amongst other new additions comes with a freaking rope launcher!
Adding an almost Batman-esq feel to the gameplay, players can now grapple their way in and out of many a tea party.
This rope launcher not only allows for players to get out of a tight spot in a hurry, it can also create a zip line from one building to another.
If life gets a little tricky, just fire this little beauty off and as the British youth of today say, “get the freak out of dodge”!
4. New Weapons
We all love new toys, and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate has a fair few of those!
Starting with the assassin’s gauntlet, this of course has its standard hidden blade for dismissing those pesky British guards, but this time it includes other such wonders like projectile darts!
These darts can poison, kill or stun and create a great alternative to the traditional routes that assassin of the past undertook.
Players can look forward to harnessing the power of a technological revolution, the twins will have at their disposal a multitude of new and exciting weapons, gadgets and tactics to take back the world’s capital. Gun placements, royal carriages and even battle ships in harbour will all be commandeer-able.
On a more personal level though, the players will have access to a whole heap of toys to run amuck with. These toys include, the compact six shooter, bruising brass knuckles, the sword cane, the assassin’s blade, hidden kukri knife, along with, of course, the rope launcher!
Remember that we are now in Victorian London, it is no longer acceptable to wander around the city with your weapon hanging out for all to see, they must now be concealed, hidden away from prying eyes.
These cool new weapons and features can be combined to explosive effect, all designed to enhance the all new closer combat that Assassin’s Creed Syndicateintroduces.
5. Recruit an army
It’s time to rally the troops. As seen before in Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, the player can now recruit and train their very own army of lethal assassins. In Syndicate this works by means of recruiting the locally oppressed residents of London.
Mould them into your very own army, lead the revolution against the Templars with an ever growing force of retribution. These newest members to your alliance will be your eyes and ears on the ground, the more you recruit, the more you will know.
Liberate the weak and oppressed and they will fight for you on the streets!
Now this isn’t really one of the 5 reasons, but the new hats look amazing!
Whilst roaming around the city Jacob looks dapper as ever with his new head gear; only when he’s heading into a mission does the hat come off, and the beautifully iconic assassins hood come into play!
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate promises to breathe new life into the franchise as it takes us into a new age of rebellion and brotherhood.
Assassin’s Creed syndicate releases October 23, 2015 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
