All new footage courtesy of the Tokyo Games Show 2015, takes us back into the heart of darkness in this never before seen gameplay from Dark Souls 3. The new gameplay is brimming with new enemies, spells, weapons and magic.
The footage you are about to see is From Software’s most recent build of the game – the gameplay location is the same as the one we saw at gamescom in the summer but this time around there is so much more to fear.
The first point to note is the new magic and spells system in Dark Souls 3 – From Software have opted to build a more traditional magic system into the game.
This should revert the players back to the times of the oldschool casting games and have considerable impact on how Dark Souls players will slay their foes. Not to mention this adding a new level of complexity and skill to the combat.
The players will now be working off a dedicated magic bar (Gauge) that depletes whenever magic is used. This system will suit the more aggressive players down to the ground.
The addition of this dynamic and brutally effective magic system will add another level of depth to an already brilliant and versatile game. With the sheer amount of spells, casting abilities and summoning powers that will eventually be available in Dark Souls 3, each player will be able to play through the game differently.
Dark Souls 3 even heralds a new line of attack for the players to choose from. When the player has full stamina another option becomes available – and this attack is powerful. This works almost like an ‘overcharged’ mode – it’s time sensitive that ramps up the combat tempo and allows you to dual wield mighty broad swords and tear through the opposition like a knife through butter.
Once you have figured out how to balance out your endurance and vitality, light attack vs heavy attack, spells and summons you will find that this game will provide you with hundreds of hours of adventure. And produce some seriously powerful player characters. Which for me, is exactly what Demon Souls and Dark Souls is all about!
Does The Magic System Make The Game Easier?
My general rule in life is that moderation is key. The same goes for magic inDark Souls 3 – to answer the question directly, yes it does BUT the use of magic can come with severe risk. Use too much too often and your player is left without any protection whatsoever and to utilise your magic you will have to sacrifice your ability to dual wield your weapons.
So, it’s a question of risk vs reward in Dark Souls 3. Unlike the old games the magic will restore naturally as opposed to having to sit around a campfire singing Kumbaya to yourself.
Plus the use of magic in Dark Souls 3 is optional – whether you choose to use it or not is up to you. You can get very far in Dark Souls simply by bludgeoning your way through the enemies, but the magic ability in Dark Souls 3 can be so devastating that ignoring its power could be fatal.
Dark Souls 3 will be releasing in April of 2016 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
