SOMA Is Terrifying & Will Definitely Be the Freakiest Video Game Out This Year!

If you were an underwater research scientist, this would quite literally be your worst nightmare! As for us land loving nine-to-fivers, SOMA takes us into the deepest, darkest corners of our imagination and then pushes us off the edge into Hell. This is one freaky game!

This latest scare-fest comes from the well-known masters of horror, Frictional Games. This emerging studio proved their mettle in horror with their last title,Amnesia. This time we’re heading down to the deepest fathoms of the ocean to a research facility that has gone dark.

The radio has fallen silent and the feeling of isolation bears down on the crew members of PATHOS-2. Ever since communications went down, strange things have begun to happen.

Machines are taking on human traits and alien constructions have started to interfere with routine. Their once vibrant ship is now a prison, as the eerie goings on get ever worse, it becomes increasingly apparent that this ship may very well become their tomb.

The Fear

There are a multitude of reasons why SOMA will be totally out of this world freaky, but if I had to nail down just one reason, it has to be the physical personification of evil. In SOMA, I get the impression that we will never know exactly what it is that we are being stalked by, is it a ghost, a monster, a zombie or all three? Maybe something even WORSE?!

SOMA is a survival horror, and this is what scares me the most. From what we have seen from the above video there will be a lot of times that the player will have no choice but to cower in a corner and hope to goodness that they have not been spotted. The sense of helplessness has really been hammered home in SOMA.

The way in which the creatures move and their noises makes my skin crawl just thinking about playing through those scenes. The atmosphere also aids in pulling us into the madness and despair that comes with such a case of isolation.

Will SOMA live up to our lofty expectations? I guess we’ll just have to wait until September 22nd when the game launches on Xbox One, PS4 and PC to find out.
